7 Questions We Hope Get Answered in ‘Taylor Swift: The End of an Era’

The six-part documentary series premieres Dec. 12 on Disney+.

Taylor Swift, can we ask you a question? Or several, really.

As the days count down to the premiere of Taylor Swift: The End of an Era, there are a few lingering thoughts in our minds about the record-breaking tour that dominated from 2023 to 2024.

Luckily, Swift – whose latest release The Life of a Showgirl spent its first seven weeks at the top of the Billboard 200, while its lead single “The Fate of Ophelia” currently reigns at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 in its eighth week – is gifting us with the six-part documentary the day before her birthday.

From the clips that have already premiered, we’ve already learned a lot. At least one dancer gives an interview. A personal message gets projected right before she goes onstage. Travis Kelce met her under the stage. Andrea Swift talks. Taylor signed a lot of albums after shows because she couldn’t sleep just yet. She breaks down a mashup – in this case it was the final mashup in Vancouver of “New Year’s Day,” “Long Live” and “The Manuscript.” (And we’ve known for a long time that yes, she did use the janitor’s cart to get from her dressing room prior to each concert’s start.) But there’s more we’re really curious about. (With all due respect, of course.)

Taylor Swift: The End of an Era premieres Dec. 12, 2025 on Disney+ along with The Eras Tour: The Final Show – which includes never-before-seen high-definition footage of The Tortured Poets Department set. Read below for the questions we hope are answered during the documentary series.

  • Why did Taylor Swift not have its own era?

    } else {

    The pop superstar played plenty of songs from her 2006 debut album during the acoustic sections, but none made it to the everyday set list, while every other album had its own showcase – at least for the first leg. (folklore and evermore were combined once she added The Tortured Poets Department.)

  • Whose idea was it first for Travis to jump on stage?

    });
    } else {
    // This should only be get called when page cache is not cleared and it’s event time.
    window.pmc.harmony?.switchToHarmonyPlayer();
    }

    And just how did that conversation go?

  • Why weren’t some of the 1989 color combos used?

    Trending on Billboard

    if ( !window.pmc.harmony?.isEventAdScheduledTime() ) {
    pmcCnx.cmd.push(function() {
    pmcCnx({

    Fans meticulously cataloged which outfits she wore every night. And during the European shows in the 1989 set, she varied the combinations of her top, skirt and shoes. But according to internet sleuths, she never wore green on green or the green top with the yellow skirt.

  • How did she pick the order of songs?

    Trending on Billboard

    if ( !window.pmc.harmony?.isEventAdScheduledTime() ) {
    pmcCnx.cmd.push(function() {
    pmcCnx({

    });
    } else {
    // This should only be get called when page cache is not cleared and it’s event time.
    window.pmc.harmony?.switchToHarmonyPlayer();
    }

    That seems like a pretty big ordeal.

  • Why didn’t she play “Girl at Home”?

    Trending on Billboard

    if ( !window.pmc.harmony?.isEventAdScheduledTime() ) {
    pmcCnx.cmd.push(function() {
    pmcCnx({

    });
    } else {
    // This should only be get called when page cache is not cleared and it’s event time.
    window.pmc.harmony?.switchToHarmonyPlayer();
    }

    A few of her tracks never made it to the surprise acoustic section – some we can guess might have been too sensitive or personal to play. But not “Girl at Home.”

  • What was the deal with the Reputation body suit?

    Trending on Billboard

    if ( !window.pmc.harmony?.isEventAdScheduledTime() ) {
    pmcCnx.cmd.push(function() {
    pmcCnx({

    });
    } else {
    // This should only be get called when page cache is not cleared and it’s event time.
    window.pmc.harmony?.switchToHarmonyPlayer();
    }

    Until the Miami shows in 2024, Taylor only donned one black-and-red Reputation outfit, while all other eras had multiple changes from night to night. However, on Oct. 18, 2024 – well into her time on the road – she surprised the audience with the black-and-gold version.

  • How did Taylor write not one but two albums while on tour?

    Trending on Billboard

    if ( !window.pmc.harmony?.isEventAdScheduledTime() ) {
    pmcCnx.cmd.push(function() {
    pmcCnx({
    settings: {
    plugins: {
    pmcAtlasMG: {
    iabPlcmt: 2,

    }
    },
    playerId: ‘4057afa6-846b-4276-bc63-a9cf3a8aa1ed’,
    playlistId: ‘190d23fd-88b6-41bd-92b4-50d96f566e9a’,
    }).render(“connatix_contextual_player_div”);
    });
    } else {
    // This should only be get called when page cache is not cleared and it’s event time.
    window.pmc.harmony?.switchToHarmonyPlayer();
    }

    During the 2024 Grammys, Swift announced the April 2024 release of her 11th studio album The Tortured Poets Department and noted she had been working on it for two years. So she didn’t write it entirely while on tour – but footage of her during her breaks before TTPD came out put her at Electric Lady Studios. And she’s admitted she made The Life of a Showgirl by flying back and forth from Sweden to collaborate with Max Martin and Shellback while also performing. In the words of her mom, “that’s complicated.”
