A New Chapter for the City Center
Planned for the site of the Old Bus Station on Elder Gate, the 4,000-capacity venue is designed to bridge a significant gap in the city’s cultural infrastructure. While the existing Milton Keynes Theatre has been a staple of the community since 1999, its size limits the scale of acts it can host. This new development will allow for blockbuster concerts, major comedy tours, and massive live experiences, with over 100 headline events expected annually.
The project is situated in a prime location, adjacent to the revitalized Station Square and the new £150 million Unity Place. It is forecasted to attract more than 300,000 visitors every year, cementing the city’s reputation as a cultural powerhouse in the region.
Economic and Community Impact
Beyond the stage, the venue represents a massive win for the local economy. The project is estimated to deliver:
£158 million in total economic and community benefits.
The creation of approximately 70 new jobs.
A significant boost to city center footfall, benefiting local hospitality and retail.
Nicola Sawford, Chair of MKDP, described the project as a “world-class events venue” that reflects a vision for a “vibrant, welcoming city center.” Nick Potter, COO for ATG Entertainment, added that the city’s “growing population and strong cultural appetite” make it the ideal location for this expansion.
Next Steps and Opening Date
The planning process is set to begin later in 2026, which will include a public consultation to allow local residents to help shape the final design. Following the consultation and construction phase, the doors are officially scheduled to open in 2029.
