Hilary Duff Is Returning to Music. Thank God

Hilary Duff fans, rejoice. A decade after her last album (2015’s Breathe In. Breathe Out.), the actress has announced her return to music.

The actress-singer signed with Atlantic Records and will star in a new docuseries directed by Sam Wrench, who recently worked on Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, A Nonsense Christmas with Sabrina Carpenter, and Laufey’s A Night At the Symphony: Hollywood Bowl. The title and release date have yet to be announced, but the series will chronicle her return to music, as she records new material and prepares for her first performances in over a decade.

Duff, who recently starred in the Hulu spinoff How I Met Your Father, has been quietly teasing her return to music, posting photos of her in the studio. On Aug. 26, she celebrated the 22nd anniversary of her beloved second album Metamorphosis, and ended the lengthy, heartfelt caption with a cryptic “To be continued….”

In the post, Duff joked that she had to “go digging” on the internet for photos from the era because camera phones didn’t yet exist, but that her hairstyles are all heavily documented. “I do know this marker of time was a huge change in my being,” she wrote. “I was embarking on something I had no idea would make such an impact on peoples lives, and mine. As much as I look back and think this album doesn’t hold the emotional depth I look for today, I know my 14/15 year old self meant every word. It sure as hell also landed on people at the right moment in time and set me off on a pretty epic adventure.”

Earlier this summer, Duff commemorated the 10-year anniversary of Breathe In. Breathe Out. She reflected on that period, noting it’s how she met her now husband, musician Matthew Koma, who worked on the record. “While Breathe In. Breathe Out. didn’t have major success, there was still some work on the record that felt authentic,” she said. “I see you all blaming yourselves on TikTok, not actually your fault (but really it was), just kidding, but don’t let it happen again…next time…okay.”

Considering we were robbed of a Lizzie McGuire reboot, we definitely won’t.
