Katie Melua to perform at London Carol Service for music therapy charity Nordoff and Robbins

Nordoff and Robbins, the UK’s largest music therapy charity, has today announced that singer-songwriter Katie Melua will be delivering a special performance as part of its much-loved annual Carol Service, presented by OVO, taking place at St Luke’s & Christ Church in Chelsea, London on Tuesday 9 December, from 7pm.

Katie will be performing a specially curated set of songs in the stunning 300-year-old West London church, on a night that will also be filled with traditional carol singing, festive readings and more star performances to be announced soon.

Since 1997, the Nordoff and Robbins Carol Service has raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for essential music therapy services that support people who have dementia, learning difficulties, mental health issues, physical injuries, disabilities, terminal illness or autism, across the UK. Previous performers include Jamie Cullum, Sugababes, Kaiser Chiefs, Imelda May, Nile Rodgers, Emeli Sandé, Sir Rod Stewart and Robbie Williams.

Tickets are available now via Nordoff and Robbins, priced at £60, including a souvenir brochure, mulled wine and mince pie.

Katie Melua is one of the UK’s highest-selling female recording artists of all time. Originally from Tbilisi, Georgia, Katie moved to the UK at a young age where she studied at the acclaimed Brit School of Performing Arts. It is her extraordinary voice and ability to truly inhabit a song, that have been her trademark since first appearing on the music scene in 2003. An accomplished songwriter, composer, and arranger, Katie has released nine top 10 studio albums and is currently writing her tenth studio album. She has sold in excess of 11 million albums and received over 56 platinum awards.

Katie Melua, said: “It’s a real honour to be invited to perform at the Nordoff and Robbins London Carol Service. I have supported this wonderful charity for many years now and continue to be inspired by the way its music therapists use music to help people connect, communicate and find joy in a turbulent world. I’m looking forward to being part of this special evening whilst helping to raise money for this vitally important cause.”

Sandra Schembri, CEO of Nordoff and Robbins, said: “Our annual London Carol Service is a heartwarming way to join with our supporters and celebrate what we’ve achieved over the past year, but our work never stops. Demand for music therapy is growing, and we are working towards a future where we can give even more people a voice through music. Events like these offer us a chance to spread cheer and hope, as well as an opportunity to raise vital funds, so we can continue providing music therapy and transforming the lives of a non-verbal autistic child, or someone living with dementia, every single day.”

In 2024, Nordoff and Robbins supported almost 17,000 people with over 54,500 music therapy sessions, working alongside 391 organisations such as care homes, schools and hospitals to provide music therapy across the UK.
