Mariah Carey headlines historic concert in the Amazon

Global superstar Mariah Carey delivered a landmark performance on a floating stage in the Amazon rainforest as part of Amazônia Live – Hoje e Sempre (Amazon Live – Today and Always). The event, promoted by Rock in Rio and The Town with main sponsor Vale, was created to unite music and climate action, raising awareness about the urgent need to preserve the Amazon. The show aired nationwide in Brazil on Multishow and TV Globo on September 17.

Carey performed on a spectacular 13.2-tonne megastructure shaped like a Victoria Amazonica water lily, a symbol of the region, temporarily installed on the Guamá River. She was joined on stage by a lineup of renowned artists from the Pará music scene, including Dona Onete, Joelma, Gaby Amarantos, and Zaynara. Together, they delivered a one-of-a-kind performance to amplify the global call for forest preservation, celebrating the resilience and creativity of the Amazon and its people.

Leandro Modé, Vale’s Director of Communications and Brand, stated, “With our sponsorship of Amazônia Live, we seek to engage people in the cause of forest preservation, while valuing the region’s culture.” Vale, which has been present in the Amazon for over 40 years, used its involvement to reinforce its commitment to sustainable development.

In addition to the televised special, the movement will continue with a free event on September 20 at the Mangueirão stadium in Belém. The concert will feature performances from regional and national artists, including singer Ivete Sangalo, and will be followed by a documentary about the behind-the-scenes creation of the iconic movement.
