IDLES’ Joe Talbot, Kneecap’s DJ Próvaí, AURORA, Adam Buxton, Louis Theroux and more to collaborate with big-name artists for In Place Of War auction

IDLES’ Joe Talbot and Kneecap’s DJ Próvaí are among the musicians to collaborate with big name visual artists for a new charity auction.

The series of one-off artistic collaborations are part of the ‘Music Shaped’ project from non-profit organisation In Place Of War, which strives to bring creativity to places impacted by political conflict and climate change.

Musicians, comedians and actors are paired with visual artists to create pieces of work inspired by the influence that music has had on their lives, and the pieces will be sold at the Sound And Cinema Auction presented by Bonhams from November 24 to December 3. Find the auction here.

Talbot was teamed with Bristol-based artist Penfold, known for his work ranging from album artwork to skateboard graphics, while Próvaí teamed with Aches, a large-scale mural and graffiti artist based in Dublin.

Others involved in the project include podcaster and comedian Adam Buxton, who worked with fellow comedian and artist Joe Lycett, and broadcaster Louis Theroux, who was paired with Turner Prize-winner Jeremy Deller.

Musicians AURORA, Philip Selway of Radiohead, Roni Size and Steve Ignorant of Crass are also involved, as well as actor Maxine Peake, poet Lemn Sissay, broadcaster Don Letts and comedian Mark Thomas.

Money raised at the auction will support In Place Of War’s #HackMusic programme, which supports music projects involving people in indigenous communities, LGBTQI+ artists, those in conflict zones and those responding to the climate crisis.

In Place Of War CEO Ruth Daniel has said: “It’s challenging to fundraise for our work and there has never been a greater need for it, in these turbulent times. This beautiful creative project allows us to fundraise for critical projects in places affected by conflict, through the creation of new artworks, by some of the most brilliant artists on the planet. We are honoured to have such a rich list of creative collaborators involved. We are truly humbled and hope that audiences will enjoy this new art, which tells stories of the importance of music and art to everyone’s lives.”

Last year’s ‘Music Shaped’ project involved artists including Self Esteem, Charlotte Church, Radiohead’s Ed O’Brien and Brian Eno and it raised over £32,000 for the charity.

In other IDLES news, they have been announced for Deftones’ All Points East x Outbreak event next August, and they will open for Foo FIghters during their ‘Take Cover’ Auropean stadium tour next summer, as well as play at Primavera Sound Porto.

They were also part of the star-studded ‘Hope Over Fear’ t-shirt for Music Declares Emergency this month, while Talbot also featured on the new Gorillaz single ‘The God Of Lying’.
