Jessie J Seems to Take a Swipe at Ex Channing Tatum on New Album

Jessie J returned this week with Don’t Tease Me With a Good Time, her first album in eight years — and on the LP, she seems to have some choice words for ex-boyfriend Channing Tatum.

On the track “Threw It Away,” J takes aim at a former lover who gave up on their relationship. “I put my heart out on the table/ That’s when it got uncomfortable/No more honey, Monday to Sunday/ Oh, you got a new bae, huh, okay,” she sings on the first verse. “Don’t you dare rewrite the story/ I’m the beauty, you’re the beast… Have a good time in these streets,” she sings later.

According to The Sun, J was candid about the song’s inspiration during a listening party in London this week. “This next song I wrote in 2020 with Ryan Tedder, and you can figure out who I was dating,” she reportedly said during the event.

J and Tatum were first linked together in 2018, and were reportedly in an on-and-off-again relationship until April 2020 when they confirmed they had called it quits. “They cared enough about each other to try again but realized it was better to move on,” a source told People at the time. “It’s totally amicable.”

Don’t Tease Me With a Good Time is J’s first album since parting ways with Republic Records, after being signed to the label for 17 years. She released her new music on D.A.P. and her own self-titled label.

This is also J’s first release following her breast cancer diagnosis. She caught the disease early and underwent a mastectomy and breast reconstruction surgery earlier this year. As she was recovering, she canceled her U.S. tour dates and postponed several U.K. dates.
