Black Sabbath’s Tony Iommi to “definitely” release solo album in 2026

Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi has said he will “definitely” release a new solo album later in 2026.

The rock legend uploaded a video to his official YouTube channel on New Year’s Eve, something he traditionally does every year, and in it, he revealed that as part of his plans for the year ahead, he intends to release the follow-up to his last solo record, 2005’s ‘Fused’.

He began by listing off some of his highlights of 2025, including working alongside Robbie Williams on ‘Rocket’, the lead single on Williams’ new album ‘BRITPOP’, and receiving the Freedom of Birmingham award alongside his Sabbath bandmates, which he described as “absolutely amazing”.

He also reflected on the historic final Sabbath show ‘Back To The Beginning’. “The amount of bands that turned up to support Sabbath at that was just fantastic,” he said. “What a great event. And, of course, it raised a lot of money for charity.”

Iommi went on to acknowledge the untimely death of his friend and bandmate Ozzy Osbourne just weeks after the show. “It’s just unfortunate and sad that Ozzy passed away a couple of weeks after that,” he said. “May he rest in peace.”

He then turned his attention to his plans for 2026. “There’s a Gibson documentary coming out very, very soon,” he said. “And then, of course, in 2026, I shall have, definitely, definitely, my solo album out.”

“I’m really looking forward to that,” he added. “I’m enjoying doing it. It’s been great fun, and I really, really hope you enjoy it, but I’ll keep you more up to date as we go on with what’s happening with that, and when it’s going to be released.”

Iommi referenced the album in his New Year’s message in 2023, saying at the time that he had built a new studio that was “almost ready to go”, and that he intended to write a record there in the course of that year.

Elsewhere, Iommi gave a surprise performance at the press night for the Birmingham Royal Ballet’s performance of Black Sabbath – The Ballet in London in October. He treated the live audience to the guitar solo from ‘Paranoid’, with May also in attendance at the show.

Brian May also gifted him a left-handed replica of his classic Red Special guitar last month, which Iommi said had made “Christmas come early”.
