‘One Battle After Another,’ ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ & More Winners That Made History at the 2026 Golden Globes

One Battle After Another was the top winner on the film side at the 2026 Golden Globes, with four wins. It won best motion picture, musical or comedy; best director – motion picture and best screenplay – motion picture, both for Paul Thomas Anderson; and best performance by a female actor in a supporting role in any motion picture for Teyana Taylor.

Sinners, Hamnet, KPop Demon Hunters and The Secret Agent each won two awards on the night.

The awards were presented Sunday (Jan. 11) at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California, with Nikki Glaser hosting for the second year in a row.

Chloé Zhao’s Hamnet won best motion picture – drama, while One Battle After Another took best motion picture – musical or comedy, setting them up as leading (but by no means unstoppable) contenders to win best picture at the Oscars. Of the 26 films to win the Oscar for best picture at the ceremonies between 2000 and 2025, exactly half had previously won one or the other of these Globes prizes. (Ten of those films had won best motion picture – drama; three had won best motion picture – musical or comedy.)

Adolescence was the top winner on the TV side, with four wins: best television limited series, anthology series or motion picture made for television, as well as acting awards for Stephen Graham, Erin Doherty and Owen Cooper. The Pitt and The Studio followed with two wins each.

Here’s a closer look at the key winners at the 2026 Golden Globes.

The Golden Globes are produced by Dick Clark Productions, which is owned by Penske Media Eldridge, a joint venture between Eldridge Industries and Billboard parent company Penske Media.

  • Double Wins for KPop Demon Hunters

KPop Demon Hunters won two awards – best original song for “Golden” and best animated film. This marks the first time in Globes history that one film has won in both of those categories. Best animated film was first presented in 2007. The inaugural winner in the category was Cars, which bested Happy Feet, which housed that year’s best original song winner, Prince’s “Song of the Heart.”

  • Paul Thomas Anderson Scores a Triple

Paul Thomas Anderson won for best motion picture – musical or comedy, best director – motion picture and best screenplay – motion picture for One Battle After Another. He’s only the second person to win in those three categories in one year. The first was Oliver Stone for the war drama Born on the Fourth of July (1989). Despite all those wins, the Tom Cruise-starring film went on to lose best picture at the Oscars (to the sentimental favorite, Driving Miss Daisy).

  • Barbie, Wicked & Sinners

Sinners won the award for cinematic and boxoffice achievement, an award that had gone to Barbie and Wicked the first two years it was presented. Five of the seven other nominees in the category this year grossed more than Sinners globally, but this award reflects both boxoffice success and a film’s quality and uniqueness. For the record, Sinners has grossed $368.3 million globally, a total outpaced by these five other nominees: Zootopia 2 (1.595 million), Avatar: Fire and Ash (1.101 million), F1 (631.7 million), Mission Impossible – The Final Reckoning (598.8 million) and Wicked: For Good (520.9 million).

  • Past Hosts Win

Two past Golden Globes hosts won awards. Ricky Gervais, who hosted the show five times between 2010 and 2020, won best performance in stand-up comedy on television for Ricky Gervais: Mortality. Amy Poehler, who co-hosted (with Tina Fey) four times between 2013 and 2021, was the inaugural winner of best podcast for Good Hang With Amy Poehler (Spotify).

Gervais was not present at the ceremony. Poehler accepted her award from presenter Snoop Dogg, resulting in one of the night’s most entertaining moments.

  • Finally, Chalamet

Timothée Chalamet won his first Golden Globe for best performance by a male actor in a motion picture – musical or comedy for Marty Supreme. He had been nominated four times without winning, for Call Me by Your Name (2018), Beautiful Boy (2019), Wonka (2024) and A Complete Unknown (2015).

  • Viva Brazil

Wagner Moura won best performance by a male actor in a motion picture, drama for The Secret Agent one year after a fellow Brazilian, Fernanda Torres, won best performance by a female actor in a motion picture, musical or comedy for I’m Still Here.

  • Stellan Skarsgård Wins Second Globe, Putting Pressure on His Son to Catch Up

Stellan Skarsgård won best performance by a male actor in a supporting role in any motion picture for Sentimental Value. It’s his second Golden Globe, following a 2020 win for best performance by an actor in a supporting role in a series, limited series or motion picture made for television for Chernobyl. His son, Alexander, has won one Globe: a 2018 prize for best performance by an actor in a supporting role in a series, limited series or motion picture made for television for Big Little Lies.

  • Top Film Shutouts: Frankenstein and Wicked: For Good

Frankenstein and Wicked: For Good were the top shutouts on the film side. They each went 0-5 on the night. This was a comedown for the Wicked franchise. Last year, the first film won the cinematic and box office achievement award. (Nikki Glaser also took a wickedly funny shot at the sequel in her monologue, calling it Wicked: For Money.)

Runner-up for biggest film shutout was It Was Just an Accident, which went 0-4.

  • Top TV Shutout: The White Lotus

The White Lotus, which led all TV programs with six nods, was shut out. Runners-up for biggest TV shutouts were Only Murders in the Building and Severance, which each went 0-4.
