‘Marty Supreme’ soundtrack to get special vinyl release

‘Marty Supreme’ soundtrack to get special vinyl release

Marty Supreme‘s soundtrack is set to get a vinyl release – and is available for pre-order now.

The acclaimed film from director Josh Safdie stars Timothée Chalamet as determined table tennis player Marty Mauser, with supporting turns from Gwyneth Paltrow and Odessa A’zion.

While the soundtrack from composer Daniel Lopatin (aka Oneohtrix Point Never) has been available digitally since last year, it has now been confirmed that it is getting a vinyl release in 2-LP set with black and clear vinyl.

The packaging features imagery from the film and has been designed by Special Forces in collaboration with Lopatin. It also comes with a Japanese obi strip and a double-sided poster. Fans can pre-order it here now via Studio A24.

A behind-the-scenes segment on the making of the score has also dropped online – watch below:

“The music came from an obsession with rhythm, buoyancy, and motion—compiling hundreds of mallet and bell sounds to mirror Marty’s mercurial, fast, and kinetic nature, which is like a table tennis ball itself,” Lopatin said of the soundtrack.

“I wanted the score to live between tradition and invention, with neoclassical elements grounding the world around him as he finds it with rules, limits, and pressure. The electronic textures lean into the future he imagines, even as those forces begin to contend with each other.”

Among the songs included in the soundtrack – though not on this score release – is Peter Gabriel‘s ‘I Have The Touch’, which the musician expressed his delight at.

“The song is rarely asked out for a dance and I have always loved table tennis,” he wrote on his website. “Now there seems to be a real buzz about the film. Thank you to the director Josh Safdie!”

Chalamet has become an awards frontrunner for his performance, this weekend taking home the Best Lead Male Actor in a Musical or Comedy award at the Golden Globes.

“My dad instilled in me a spirit of gratitude growing up: ‘Always be grateful for what you have’,” the star said in his acceptance speech. “It’s allowed me to leave the ceremony in the past empty-handed with my head held high, grateful just to be here. But I’d be lying if I said those moments didn’t make this moment that much sweeter.”

In NME‘s five-star review of Marty Supreme, we said: “This is a story about living a great life, however you may define that. It is a film about living fully and without fear, a cynicism-free zone where, for all their fast-talking, people love each other so much it makes your heart feel like it’s about to burst. Talk about a smash.”
