Taylor Swift becomes youngest woman to be inducted into Songwriters Hall Of Fame

Taylor Swift has become the youngest female artist to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall Of Fame.

The pop star, 36, is among nine songwriters in this year’s class. She joins Walter Afanasieff, Terry Britten, Graham Lyle, Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons of KISS, Kenny Loggins, Alanis Morissette, and Christopher ‘Tricky’ Stewart.

The title was previously held by Carole Bayer Sager, who was 43 when she was inducted in 1987.

Swift is credited by the Songwriters Hall Of Fame for her tracks ‘All Too Well (10 Minute Version) (Taylor’s Version)’, ‘Blank Space’, ‘Anti-Hero’, ‘Love Story’ and ‘The Last Great American Dynasty’.

She will be welcomed into the prestigious club during a ceremony at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City on June 11. Further special award honorees will be announced soon.

Swift is also set to become the second-youngest songwriter ever inducted into the Songwriters Hall Of Fame, following Stevie Wonder. The latter was 33 when he was inducted in 1983, per The Guardian.

Founded in 1969, the Songwriters Hall Of Fame honours artists “whose work represents a spectrum of the most beloved songs from the world’s popular music songbook”, per its official website.

“Out of the tens of thousands of songwriters of our era, there are some 400+ inductees who make up the impressive roster enshrined in the Hall Of Fame,” it adds.

“A songwriter with a notable catalogue of songs qualifies for induction 20 years after the first commercial release of a song.”

Swift released her debut single, ‘Tim McGraw’, in 2006. The track appears on her self-titled first studio album.

In a statement about the Class Of 2026, SHOF chairman Nile Rodgers said: “The music industry is built upon the incredible talent of songwriters who create unforgettable songs. Without their artistry, there would be no recorded music, concert experiences, or engaged fans. Everything originates from the song and its creator.

“We take great pride in our ongoing commitment to recognising some of the most culturally significant composers in history. This year’s lineup not only showcases iconic songs but also celebrates unity across various genres.”

He added: “These songwriters have profoundly impacted the lives of billions of listeners worldwide, and it is our privilege to honour their contributions.”

In recent years, the Songwriters Hall Of Fame has inducted the likes of Donna Summer, R.E.M.‘s Michael Stipe, Jeff Lynne, Mariah Carey, Pharrell Williams and Yusuf / Cat Stevens.

Swift’s latest album, 2025’s ‘The Life Of A Showgirl’, became the first album to surpass five million pre-saves on Spotify, and earned the singer her 15th US Number One record.

The LP achieved the UK’s biggest opening week of 2025, after shifting 304,000 copies in just three days. She also surpassed the streaming-era record previously set by Adele in the opening week for ‘25’.

Last May, Swift announced that she had bought back the master recordings to her first six albums, ending a lengthy battle over the ownership of her back catalogue.

In 2024, the pop giant became the first-ever artist to win the Grammy for Album Of The Year four times, after picking up the statue for ‘Midnights’.

Meanwhile, last month saw Swift release a six-part docuseries on Disney+, The End Of An Era. The show documented the making of her record-breaking, global ‘Eras Tour’, and arrived alongside the concert film The Final Show.
