Violet Grohl has shared a new single, ‘What’s Heaven Without You’ – you can listen to it below.

The singer-songwriter, daughter of Foo Fighters‘ Dave Grohl, shared the David Lynch-inspired track to coincide with the first anniversary of the legendary filmmaker’s death.

“This song was written in David Lynch’s memory alongside two of my favourite collaborators in the world, Persia Numan, and Justin Raisen,” explained Violet of the haunting cut.

“A few days after the chaos and devastation of the LA fires, we came together in our sadness and grief and let it pour out into this song.”

She added: “We hope you can find some resonance in it. The impact he left on art is truly magical, we miss you David xx.”

“Blue Eyes/Eyes burning/ Smoke dies/ Prized Curtains,” Violet sings above a hazy, ethereal soundscape. “Unclasp my hands/ They’re hurting/ They hurt.”

Over a simplistic, distorted guitar line and subtle percussion, she adds: “Count me out/ What’s heaven without you?/ Skin to skin/ Nothing around you.”

Fans can listen to ‘What’s Heaven Without You’ exclusively via Violet’s Bandcamp profile. Tune in here:

Lynch died as a result of cardiac arrest, with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease cited as the underlying cause. His death certificate also cited dehydration as a significant factor.

The LA wildfires are said to have caused a decline in the Twin Peaks icon’s health, after he was forced to evacuate from his home along Sunset Boulevard. Lynch had shared his emphysema diagnosis in 2024, and later said he needed supplemental oxygen to walk.

Violet Grohl released another single, ‘THUM’, last month, along with the B-side ‘Applefish’.

“I’m beyond excited to finally share a little bit of what I’ve been working on over the last year,” wrote the 19-year-old artist at the time. “I made these tracks with the most badass group of musicians, so happy they’re finally yours :).”

In late 2024, it was reported that she was working on her debut solo album with producer Justin Raisen (Kim Gordon, Charli XCX, Sky Ferreira). Dave previously expressed his desire to appear on Violet’s first record.

Violet later released a cover version of ‘Nausea’, originally by Los Angeles punks X, alongside her father Dave in 2021. She began hitting the road with Foo Fighters in 2018, providing backing vocals at numerous gigs.

She also performed with them at the tribute concerts held for late Foos drummer Taylor Hawkins in 2022, and featured on the band’s 2023 song ‘Show Me How’. Violet appeared with Foo Fighters at that year’s Glastonbury to perform the track.

And when the surviving members of Nirvana – Dave, Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear –reunited for a four-song set at the Fire Aid benefit concert in LA, Violet joined for lead vocals on the final song, ‘All Apologies’.

Meanwhile, Foo Fighters celebrated Dave’s birthday with some famous friends last week, when they played a special charity gig in LA. This followed the Foos’ first show of the year in Mexico as part of their 2026 ‘Take Cover’ tour. They’ll head to the UK for two stadium concerts in Liverpool this June.
