Maren Morris has cancelled the first two shows on her Australian tour because she is unable to leave America due to “extreme weather conditions”.
Representatives from tour promoter TEG Live announced on Wednesday that the country singer is unable to arrive in Australia in time for her shows in Perth and Brisbane on Friday and Sunday.
They explained that due to the “extreme weather conditions currently impacting the United States” – referencing the major winter storm that has caused power outages and flight cancellations – the My Church singer and her touring team can’t leave the U.S. as planned.
In a message, Morris revealed that she was “stuck” in Nashville for the next few days.
“Hi everyone, the last few days have been terrifying in my home of Nashville, Tennessee,” reads her message, reports Billboard. “We’ve been without power and safe passage to other neighborhoods for days now and it’s looking like we’ll be in this for another few. With the ice freezing over every night, until enough has melted on the roads and our house power is restored, we’re stuck. I’m devastated to have to cancel these first two Australia shows. We are at the mercy of mother nature and trying to stay safe.”
TEG Live reps insisted they explored “all alternative travel options” but discovered it was impossible to find departures that would arrive in time for the shows.
The statement continues, “TEG Live and Maren Morris sincerely apologize to fans for the disappointment and inconvenience caused. The safety of the artist, crew and touring personnel remains the priority.”
Fans who had tickets for Morris’s shows at Perth’s Riverside Theatre and Brisbane’s Fortitude Music Hall will receive refunds.
The star’s shows in Melbourne on 5 February and Sydney on 7 February are expected to go ahead as planned.
The severe winter storm in North America has affected several shows. Jessie J cancelled a gig in Toronto, Canada due to safety concerns, and Jason Aldean postponed his concert in Charleston, South Carolina to August.
