Jessie Ware announces new album ‘Superbloom’: “I’ve been trying out this fantasy world and escapism”

Jessie Ware has announced her sixth studio album, ‘Superbloom’. Find all the details below.

The London singer-songwriter will release the project on April 10 via Island/EMI, following on from 2023’s ‘That! Feels Good!’. You can pre-order/pre-save it here.

Ware shared the first single from the record, ‘I Could Get Used To This’, last week. She described the glossy, classic pop song as “the opening statement of a new era”. The vocalist also cited Grace Jones, Whitney Houston and Barbra Streisand as key influences.

According to a press release, the forthcoming ‘Superbloom’ finds Ware in a “glittering rush of Studio 54-inflected groove-pop”. The LP will build on Ware’s “increasingly euphoric body of work as she explores our shared craving for touch, pleasure, intimacy and connection.”

Ware explained: “Since ‘What’s Your Pleasure?’, I’ve been trying out this fantasy world and escapism.

“I’m not the most by-the-book ‘pop star’, but I do like to play with dress-up, glamour and fun. While I love dance music, I wanted to dig deeper with this record; to connect with real relationships and appreciate the love I have, and the fears I have of losing it.”

She worked on ‘Superbloom’ with James Ford, as well as Barney Lister, Karma Kid, Jon Shave (Charli XCX) and Stuart Price (Madonna, Pet Shop Boys), while Ben Baptie (Sault, Little Simz, Adele) mixed the album.

In a previous statement, Ware said: “’I Could Get Used To This’ is an invitation into the world of this album. I wanted to set the scene of the world that I’m trying to paint in the album; romance, real love, performance, celebration and pleasure (always!) in a garden full of gods and goddesses.

“I wrote this song with Miranda Cooper, Sophia Brenan and Jon Shave who are legends in British pop music. I’ve always admired Miranda’s work so I’m incredibly glad to have a record with her. First key change I’ve ever done – I think – and exciting start to you hearing more from my work with Jon Shave and Barney Lister amongst the other fantastic collaborators on this project.”

‘That! Feels Good!’ earned Ware her second Mercury Prize nomination, having previously been shortlisted for her debut ‘Devotion’ (2012). The former peaked at Number Three on the Official UK Albums Chart, and marked her highest-ever entry on the US Top Album Sales chart.

In a four-star review of ‘That! Feels! Good!’, NME wrote: “Ware finds solace in mighty piano house choruses that are playgrounds for sonic innovation, rather than emotional honesty.”

It concluded: “While a total aesthetic shift has been crucial to her longevity, ‘That! Feels Good!’ also feels the kind of magic trick that only this more outwardly confident version of Ware could pull off.”
