In a poignant display of vocal prowess and nostalgia, pop phenomenon Melanie C took center stage today for BBC Radio 2’s Piano Room Month. Performing at the historic Maida Vale Studios alongside the world-renowned BBC Concert Orchestra, the former Spice Girl delivered a set that bridged her legendary past with an exciting new chapter.

A Setlist of Past and Present

Accompanied by lush orchestral arrangements directed by Rob Eckland, Melanie C captivated listeners with a stunning rendition of the Spice Girls’ 1996 Christmas classic, “2 Become 1.” She also revisited her solo career with her global Number 1 hit, “I Turn To You,” before giving fans an exclusive first live performance of her latest single, “What Could Possibly Go Wrong?” The new track is taken from her highly anticipated forthcoming album, Sweat.

“It’s a real honour,” Melanie C remarked. “Performing with the BBC Concert Orchestra brings a whole new depth and drama to the music. Sharing my new single in this setting makes the moment even more special.”

The Unbreakable Bond of the Spice Girls

During an intimate conversation with host Vernon Kay—whose show remains the UK’s most-listened-to with 6.6 million listeners—Melanie reflected on the enduring legacy of the Spice Girls. Despite decades in the spotlight, she emphasized that the group remains a “really tight unit.”

“There’s no one else on the planet who knows what happened, what we all went through together,” she shared. “We really respect, love, and cherish each other.”

The duo shared a lighthearted moment as Kay recalled spotting the group at a local petrol station during the earliest days of their career. Melanie noted how much has changed, mentioning that they have grown up together and are now watching their own children do the same.

Piano Room Month Continues

Melanie C is part of a star-studded February lineup for Piano Room Month, which features 16 artists including Pulp, Tori Amos, and Mumford & Sons. The residency continues tomorrow with James, followed by Macy Gray on Thursday.

Fans can catch the full performance and interview on BBC Sounds, with video highlights available on BBC iPlayer and the Radio 2 YouTube channel.
