Arctic Monkeys drummer Matt Helders joined Dan O’Connell on Radio X last week to discuss the band’s contribution to the new War Child charity album and put any rumors regarding the group’s future to rest.

Speaking on The Evening Show, Helders emphasized that despite it being 20 years since their debut album, the band’s internal dynamic remains as strong as ever.

“I don’t think there’s necessarily a trick to it,” Helders told Radio X. “No one’s sick of each other in this band. Everyone would be with each other socially… the fact that that [relationship] is still there will always bring us back together in one way or another.”

New Music and Potential Live Shows

The band recently contributed the original track ‘Opening Night’ to the latest War Child compilation. Helders revealed that while the group initially considered recording a cover, they quickly pivoted to original material. “We have fun doing covers… but then I think it pretty quickly became obvious that we wanted an opportunity to do something new as well,” he explained.

When pressed by O’Connell on whether fans can expect a live show similar to their 2020 Royal Albert Hall performance for the charity, Helders hinted that talks are likely happening behind the scenes.

“I’m sure the people behind the scenes are thinking about doing something like that again,” he noted. “This kind of thing often comes hand in hand with some special occasion.”

A “Good Record for Good People”

Helders praised the high caliber of artists involved in the new campaign, noting that no one needed their “arm twisted” to support the cause. The drummer’s comments provide a reassuring outlook for fans, confirming that the Sheffield icons are as enthusiastic as ever about making music together.
