The View’s Kyle Falconer announces new solo album ‘Lovely Night Of Terror’ with Pete Doherty pop collab single ‘Midas Touch’

Kyle Falconer of The View has announced a new solo album called ‘Lovely Night Of Terror”. Check out the lead single ‘Midas Touch’ below, which sees him join forces with Pete Doherty.

The new record is set to arrive on March 27 via Modern Sky and Run On Records, and is available to pre-order here.

It follows on from Falconer’s work with The View and working on the critically acclaimed No Love Songs musical, and marks his fourth solo LP, following on from 2018’s ‘No Thank You’, 2021’s ‘No Love Songs For Laura’ and last year’s ‘The One I Love The Most’.

With the new project, the singer-songwriter wrote, performed and produced it with Andy Gannon (Courteeners, DMA’S) at La Sierra Casa last year, and joined forces with some big names on the tracklist.

Today (Wednesday February 4), he shares the pop-driven lead single ‘Midas Touch’, which features vocals from The Libertines and Babyshambles frontman Pete Doherty.

The track carries a shimmering, summer feel throughout, and moves away from the distinctive indie roots both artists have with their respective bands, and instead leans into new elements of R&B.

Speaking of the collaboration, Falconer said: “I thought it would be cool to get someone to sing on it who wasn’t known for doing pop, and Pete felt like an obvious choice.”

“He was playing in Edinburgh, so I took my kids to see him – and he had his baby there as well. It was a great moment. We were backstage during soundcheck and he was saying it sounded like Michael Jackson,” he added. “It was funny singing and dancing along to it with him, just having a good time. Pete was one of my heroes growing up, so doing a song like that with him was pretty special.”

That step back from their indie origins is something that is carried throughout the whole ‘Lovely Night Of Terror’ album too, with Falconer instead experimenting with genres including R&B, Americana, pop-infused ballads and more throughout.

In terms of the inspiration for the record, the songwriter draws nods to topics ranging from regrets and shame, through to expectations, responsibilities, and the struggle to rebound after a period of self-pity.

“I think the album title came to me once we really got into making the songs. Every day I was picking the kids up from school saying, ‘I’ve got another cracker!’ I’d have them blasting the tracks, and my wife would come in too – seeing their reactions made it feel like something really special was happening while we were recording,” he said.

“It was around Christmas in 2024, and we were out in the countryside in Spain, in the middle of nowhere. There was nowhere to go, nowhere to hide, which gave the whole thing a strange but brilliant energy. All the songs I write have quite dark meanings, but they’re also happy. I love that oxymoron. I love horror films and trying to capture that sense of collective madness.”

As well as Doherty, other collaborations on the new solo album come from Justin Hawkins of The Darkness, Jamie Webster, Lottery Winners and Dave McCabe of The Zutons.
