Donald Trump has slammed Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl Halftime Show performance, calling it “a slap in the face to our country”.
The U.S. President took to his Truth Social platform to criticise the Puerto Rican singer’s set, which he described as “absolutely terrible” and “one of the worst, EVER!”
He also took issue with the “disgusting” dancing and with Bad Bunny singing primarily in Spanish, making him the first Halftime Show performer to do so.
“It makes no sense, is an affront to the Greatness of America, and doesn’t represent our standards of Success, Creativity, or Excellence. Nobody understands a word this guy is saying, and the dancing is disgusting, especially for young children that are watching from throughout the U.S.A., and all over the World,” he wrote on Sunday. “This ‘Show’ is just a ‘slap in the face’ to our Country, which is setting new standards and records every single day – including the Best Stock Market and 401(k)s in History!”
Trump continued, “There is nothing inspirational about this mess of a Halftime Show and watch, it will get great reviews from the Fake News Media, because they haven’t got a clue of what is going on in the REAL WORLD.”
However, many other celebrities took to social media to hail Bad Bunny’s set, with Spanish star Rosalía writing on Instagram, “Congratulations legend,” while singer/rapper Doechii wrote on X, “Bad Bunny WOW! F**king, WOW. History.”
Country singer Kacey Musgraves also compared the Halftime Show to the right-wing organisation Turning Point USA’s alternative broadcast, the All-American Halftime Show, starring Kid Rock.
“Well, that made me feel more proudly American than anything Kid Rock has ever done,” Kacey wrote.
Meanwhile, Jennifer Lopez and Shakira, who invited Bad Bunny to perform during their 2020 Halftime Show, sent him their well-wishes before the performance.
