Noel Gallagher says he’s “in the studio now”

Noel Gallagher has revealed that he is currently “in the studio”, though it remains to be seen whether he is working on new Oasis music or solo material with the High Flying Birds.

The musician shared the update during a recent interview with talkSPORT, where he was asked about being honoured with the Songwriter Of The Year award at this month’s BRITs 2026.

“I’m in the studio now, but I better put something out,” Gallagher said. “I’ve been shamed.”

When asked how he found out he’d be given the prize, the singer-songwriter explained: “If I’m being honest right, I just think they were desperate to get somebody from Oasis up there because it’s from Manchester… that’s what I think.”

The BRITs ’26 will take place at the Co-op Live in Gallagher’s home city on Saturday February 28, moving from the ceremony’s usual home of London’s O2.

“Our kid [Liam] was like, ‘I’m not going’,” he continued. “I was like, ‘Well I’ll have to go then, I suppose’.

“But no, a call came through and I was like ‘What? How can that be?’ But as it’s all based on record sales, we did sell the most records. So you know, like I say, if anybody’s got a problem with it, I’ll be there. I’ll be on the red carpet.”

Gallagher being the recipient of the award has sparked some backlash, given he has not released any new songs over the past 12 months.

“I haven’t written a song for two years,” he said. “I’m not sure how I’ve got away with that one, but I’ll take it.”

Gallagher explained: “I mean, we sold a million records last year. Didn’t even get off the couch, and I’m not sure there’s a songwriter that can match that.”

However, his latest update suggests that new material could be arriving very soon. It is currently unclear as to whether Gallagher is at work on a brand-new Oasis project – which would be their first music since 2008 – or a follow-up to his latest High Flying Birds album, 2023’s ‘Council Skies’.

Fans have been speculating over a potential new Oasis single or album since the Britpop giants returned for their huge Live ’25 reunion tour last year. Gallagher added fuel to the rumour mill recently when he said he was “back at work” following his Christmas break. He responded to whispers that he could be penning the next James Bond theme, too.

Last spring, Stereophonics’ Kelly Jones revealed that the guitarist had “been doing some writing in the studio”. “I’m assuming he’s doing some writing for either his stuff or if they’re [Oasis] gonna bring out a couple songs, I don’t know,” he explained.

At the end of last year, Liam said Oasis wouldn’t be touring again until 2027 at the earliest. He had previously teased that there were “loads more classics we need to play” on the road, and hinted at “a European tour”.

Oasis’ co-manager Alec McKinlay dismissed any hopes of new music from the band last year. In response, Liam tweeted: “The only people that will be making any kind of decisions on the future of OASIS will be ME n RKID [Noel] so let’s just take it one day at a time.”

In 2024, LG told fans that a new Oasis album was “already finished”. He raised hopes again later that year, claiming that he’d been “blown away” by the new material written by Noel.

He then went back on this in an update on X/Twitter, saying that there was “no Oasis album in the making”. Liam claimed that his prior comments were merely something he did for “a laugh”. But the frontman subsequently said “there could be an album”, depending on how the Live ’25 gigs went.

“Let’s just take 1 step at a time I think youde agree that was the wisest move [sic],” he said at the time.

At the final Live ’25 concert in São Paulo, Brazil, last November, Liam told the audience: “We love you, thanks for all your energy. Take care of yourselves, and we’ll see you again sometime.”

A new film documenting Oasis’ return and comeback tour is in the works, produced by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight. According to reports, the forthcoming project will contain some “phenomenal” footage of Liam and Noel’s first meeting ahead of the shows.

NME gave Oasis’ first 2025 show at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium a glowing five-star review, writing: “After a ‘90s heyday and an often maligned post-millennium era, this is Oasis redesigned for the 21st Century.

“Playing before a pop-art-meets-psychedelia visual spectacular that never distracts but will look sick on a phone, they seem the quintessential stadium band playing the greatest hits of greatest hits.”

Oasis have released some official live versions of tracks from different cities on the Live ’25 tour: ‘Slide Away’ from Cardiff, ‘Cigarettes & Alcohol’ from Manchester, ‘Little By Little’ from London, ‘Bring It On Down’ from Edinburgh and ‘Wonderwall’ from Dublin.
