Taylor Swift asks US government to block ‘Swift Home’ trademark

Taylor Swift asks US government to block ‘Swift Home’ trademark

Taylor Swift has asked for the US government to block a bedding company’s attempt to trademark the phrase ‘Swift Home’.

The application to trademark the term was filed with the US Patent and Trademark Office by New York-based company, Cathay Home, earlier this week (Wednesday February 11). It refers to the brand’s range of bedding items.

However, the pop star – represented by TAS Rights Management LLC – has appealed the request and claimed that it could mislead customers into believing that the range has been endorsed by her.

Her legal team cited that the font used by Cathay Home in the word “Swift” is a similar style of cursive to that of her trademarked signature, and argued that it creates a “false association” with the ‘Bad Blood’ singer.

The lawyers also claim that the type of font and the request for the trademark is an attempt to use Swift’s “goodwill and recognition” to help benefit the brand.

As highlighted by BBC News, the global superstar has filed over 300 trademarks securing her name, initials, album titles and some lyrics. It also adds that she owns federal trademarks that protect the use of her name on various items including clothes, bedding and beauty products.

She should just shake it off. Just kidding. I’ll let you decide if this is frivolous or valid.

The Daily Mail also reported that opposition to the range from Cathay Home was flagged by TAS Rights Management back in December 2025, and the singer’s team was then given a 12-month period to file opposition documents.

Neither Swift’s team nor spokespeople for Cathay Home have publicly responded to requests for comment from the Daily Mail and BBC News at time of writing.

Swift shared her latest album, ‘The Life Of A Showgirl’, in October 2025 and it was later confirmed as being the best-selling album of that year in the UK. The milestone made her the first artist to have the top seller in consecutive years for different albums since ABBA in 1977.

Since then, the singer became the youngest female artist to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall Of Fame, and also enlisted Graham Norton, Domhnall Gleeson, Lewis Capaldi, Cillian Murphy and more for a new ‘Opalite’ music video.
