While the search for a permanent base is underway, the spirit of The Leadmill remains active. Live music, comedy, club nights, and spoken-word events are continuing to take place at various locations across Sheffield, keeping the city’s cultural heart beating.
As a privately run company, The Leadmill operates without the public funding or tax reliefs often granted to council-owned cultural spaces. This makes the crowdfunding initiative vital for long-term stability. The goal is to fund venue acquisition, high-end technical infrastructure, and significant accessibility improvements, ensuring the new space is a modern haven for artist development.
A spokesperson for The Leadmill emphasized the importance of community support, stating: “This campaign is about safeguarding independent culture. Over the last four decades, more than 10 million people have passed through The Leadmill’s doors. All funds raised through the campaign will be held in a ring-fenced account dedicated solely to the creation of the new venue.
