Loraine James is releasing a new album. Out May 8 on Hyperdub, Detached From The Rest Of You features Alan Sparhawk, Tirzah, Anysia Kym, and Miho Hatori, among others. Today, she also shared the song “In A Rut” with vocalist Sydney Spann; you can listen to that below.

Detached From The Rest Of You marks James’ first LP under her own name since 2023’s Gentle Confrontation. In press materials, the British artist describes the record (lightly facetiously) as her “IDM pop star album,” sharing: “I’m using my voice a lot more, and putting it higher in the mix than I usually would. I guess I’m growing some confidence.”

In 2025, James also released a second record under her ambient-focused alias Whatever The Weather, Whatever The Weather II. The debut, self-titled Whatever The Weather came out in 2022. Since dropping Gentle Confrontation, she’s also collaborated with Purelink, Kelela, Yaeji, and more.
