Harry Styles has gifted 100 free concert tickets to pupils at his former secondary school.
Fifty lucky students at Holmes Chapel Comprehensive School in England’s Cheshire, where the British pop star studied until the age of 16, are set to receive tickets to his show in Manchester, each with a plus one.
The tickets will allow the students to attend Harry’s one-off gig at Manchester’s Co-op Live arena on Friday night.
The former One Direction star is expected to perform tracks from his new album, Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally, which was released on Friday.
According to the BBC, headteacher Nigel Bielby has revealed that the “lucky” recipients were selected at random from around 600 students who applied.
“As Harry’s ex headteacher, I am so pleased that he has kept a place in his heart for his roots and for the village and school where he grew and thrived,” he said.
Bielby described the offer from the Watermelon Sugar hitmaker as “unique and generous”, noting that families were quickly informed about the opportunity.
“With only a short amount of time to plan distributing the tickets, we decided that the fairest way was to open a ballot and allow all families a fair chance,” the headteacher stated.
He added that by midnight on Thursday, more than 600 pupils had applied for the tickets, with successful applicants informed by Friday morning.
The headteacher went on to praise Harry’s “integrity”.
“Even given his incredible rise to fame and his immense talent and success Harry understands what it means to be successful but also to maintain his sense of personal identity, integrity and credibility,” he said, adding that he is “so grateful” on behalf of the families of the successful students.
The singer’s Manchester show is being filmed for a Netflix special. Harry Styles. One Night in Manchester will debut on the streaming service on 8 March.
