Harry Styles has recalled dancing with “tears rolling down” his face because he felt so “free” at a Berlin club.

The star discussed the inspiration behind his latest album Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally, during an appearance on the Q with Tom Power podcast on Monday.

While visiting the German city last year, Styles allowed himself to let loose and have fun without the fear of being recognised.

He explained, “It’s so baked in as part of Berlin culture that everyone deserves to go dancing and be free. I was in a place where I just felt so safe, in a way, that I don’t think I had for a while in terms of really letting go.”

Referring to one particular transformative moment, the former One Direction star recalled being in a club “in a trance state in the music and feeling tears roll down my face.”

Styles has described the experience as “really emotional” and revealed it allowed him to be a “free version” of himself.

He continued, “And I remember standing in the middle of the dance floor and I had my hands up and I was kind of just breathing and I closed my eyes and I remember the feeling of, ‘Oh, I’m no longer scanning the room to see if anyone’s like, filming or anything.’ I just felt like, ‘Oh, I’m just on my own right now and I feel so free.'”

As a result, the 32-year-old star felt inspired to record his latest upbeat album, and is hopeful tracks such as Aperture and Dance No More will instil a similar feeling of freedom in his fans.

Elsewhere in the interview, Styles revealed he was left with a “real afterglow” for weeks after he had been to Berlin.
