Morrissey has axed one of his concerts after enduring “indescribable hell” at a hotel in Spain.

The former Smiths frontman cancelled his show in Valencia, Spain, after a sleep-deprived night left him “catatonic”.

Morrissey, whose full name is Steven Patrick Morrissey, first flagged he may be unable to perform by posting a message to his Morrissey Central website explaining he had not had “any form of sleep or rest” the previous night.

“Having travelled for two days by road, Morrissey reached the hotel in Valencia late on Wednesday,” the post read. “Any form of sleep or rest throughout the night was impossible due to festival noise / loud techno singing / megaphone announcements.”

The post went on to urge fans to check back before attending that evening’s event.

“This experience has left Morrissey in a catatonic state,” it read. “Before leaving for tonight’s scheduled concert, please check that the show remains possible under these circumstances.”

Later, a new post appeared, declaring the 66-year-old musician was not cancelling the show, but that it had been “rendered impossible”.

“Tonight’s scheduled show in Valencia has been rendered impossible due to sleep deprivation. Morrissey drove from Milan to Valencia but has been unable to rest in Valencia due to noise,” it read. “The show is not cancelled. Circumstances render the show impossible.”

Still later, a third post appeared, quoting Morrissey as calling his night at a Valencian hotel “indescribable hell”.

“It will take me one year to recover,” he added. “And that is an understatement.”

The cancellation was the latest in a string of scrapped shows over the past year, with Morrissey previously abandoning plans to perform in Connecticut, Massachusetts and California in the US, as well as Sweden, Argentina and Chile, among other locations.
