AC/DC guitarist Stevie Young has been hospitalised ahead of the band’s ‘PWR Up’ tour stop in Argentina.

The rhythm guitarist – whose father Stephen was the older brother of the band’s founders Malcolm and Angus Young – was reportedly “not feeling well” upon arrival in Buenos Aires earlier this week, and headed to the hospital to be safe, a spokesperson for Young told People in a statement.

“Out of an abundance of caution, he was admitted to a local hospital where he is undergoing a full battery of tests,” the spokesperson said. AC/DC are set to play three sold-out shows at Monumental Stadium, and will kick off the three-night stint on Monday (March 23), with Young said to be fit to perform.

“Stevie is doing well and is in good spirits. He is looking forward to getting on stage on Monday,” the statement read.

The ‘PWR UP’ tour takes its name from AC/DC’s 2020 album of the same name (‘Power Up’), their 17th studio record. In a four-star review of the album, NME wrote: “By the time things wrap up on ‘Code Red’, which sees the band firing on all cylinders, it becomes clear that their steadfast refusal to adapt or change is no bad thing.

“While far from a reinvention of the wheel, ‘Power Up’ is a joyous celebration of the unbridled heavy rock that has served them well for almost 50 years and, we can hope, a unifying cry for the future.”

Previously stops on the saw their first Australian concert in a decade hit such powerful heights, it set off earthquake detection equipment.

Per the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), Adam Pascale, chief scientist at the Seismology Research Centre, said vibrations within the two to five hertz range were registered at their Richmond office, about three-and-a-half kilometres from the concert venue.

That homecoming stop saw them roll out all the hits including ‘Back In Black’, ‘Thunderstruck’, ‘Shoot To Thrill’ and more, as well as the return of ‘Jailbreak’ for the first time in 34 years.

The Australian leg was also notable because it marked the band’s first shows with their new line-up, comprising singer Brian Johnson, guitarists Angus and Stevie Young, drummer Matt Laug, and new bassist Chris Chaney (Jane’s Addiction, Alanis Morissette).
