A Hat-Trick in the Making
If the seven-piece—comprising RM, SUGA, j-hope, Jin, Jung Kook, V, and Jimin—holds their lead through Friday, ARIRANG will become their third UK chart-topper. This follows the massive success of 2019’s MAP OF THE SOUL: PERSONA and 2020’s MAP OF THE SOUL: 7.
The stakes are higher than ever this week, as the lead single “SWIM” is simultaneously locked in a ferocious battle for the top spot on the Official Singles Chart. Should both the album and single clinch the summit, BTS will achieve their first-ever “Official Chart Double”—a rare feat for any international act in the UK.
The Competition
While BTS currently leads the pack, the race is far from over. Their closest rival is North Carolina country powerhouse Luke Combs, whose latest record The Way I Am is currently sitting at Number 2. This represents a potential personal best for Combs, whose previous high-water mark was Number 5 with 2023’s Gettin’ Old.
Further down the Top 10, a British favorite is making waves. Wakefield’s own Jane McDonald is eyeing her highest-charting album in nearly three decades. Her new collection, Living The Dream, is currently holding at Number 5; if it stays there, it will be her best performance since her 1998 self-titled debut.
Midweek Movement
The midweek update also shows a significant surge for Zach Bryan. His sixth studio LP, With Heaven On Top, has vaulted 73 places to Number 25 following its release on physical formats. The album previously peaked at Number 3 upon its digital release in January.
As streaming numbers and physical sales continue to be tallied, all eyes are on the “Army” to see if they can propel BTS to a historic double victory.
