Mary In The Junkyard have announced their highly-anticipated debut album ‘Role Model Hermit’ and released a new single ‘Crash Landing’. Find all the details below.

The album follows the former NME Cover stars‘ breakthrough 2024 debut EP, ‘This Old House’, and is due for release on July 3 via AMF Records. You can pre-order/pre-save it here.
Today (Wednesday March 25), they’ve shared the first glimpse in the form of ‘Crash Landing’ – a trip-hop infused ballad that traces the breakdown of a relationship.
Vocalist Clari Freeman-Taylor explains: “‘Crash Landing’ was written when we fell in love with the warm, low drones of the harmonium. At the time, we were listening a lot to Life Without Buildings on tour, so I think I was channelling some chirpy scatty poetry when we were jamming. This one is really joyful for me, it is all about change and growth.”
It comes alongside a dreamy music video directed by Maisy Banks and Jacob Ray, which you can check out below.
Per a press release, the album is “a collection of dark fables”, set to tread the line between fact and fiction.
The band have said of their debut: “’Role Model Hermit’ is full of stories, memories and past lives. We want it to be something that you can get lost in, like a forest or a cave, where you can shelter inside for a while to rest and recover”.

Speaking to NME for the Cover in 2024, Freeman-Taylor said a run of festival dates in 2024 had given the band a deeper understanding of what it took to nurture the “very different type of friendship” they share.
“I feel like we really have each other’s backs,” she explained. “We have learned what it’s like to spend stressful days together, and be completely silent when we need to.”
In a four-star review of ‘This Old House’, NME praised the trio’s “bewitching art-pop” that “soars above the hype”. It added: “Let their music pour out of your speakers and into your life. Get out and experience the flesh, blood, guts and grit of this band in all of their glory and promise.”
