Mumford & Sons played a surprise show in front of London’s Battersea Power Station to celebrate Apple’s 50th anniversary.

The tech company’s half-century birthday party came to the UK for a show that was introduced by Apple Music 1 host Dotty, in which Mumford & Sons aired both their biggest hits and newer cuts from their sixth studio album ‘Prizefighter‘.

Nia Archives also performed a DJ set from the balcony of the iconic power station, which was transformed into a shopping centre that opened in 2021. At the end, a large Apple logo was projected onto the building.

Setlist:
1. ‘Here’
2. ‘Rubber Band Man’
3. ‘Little Lion Man’
4. ‘Awake My Soul’
5. ‘White Blank Page’
6. ‘The Banjo Song’
7. ‘Conversation With My Son (Gangsters & Angels)’
8. ‘The Cave’
9. ‘I Will Wait’

Mumford & Sons caught up with NME in November, in which frontman Marcus Mumford said he thought the new album “elevates” their sound.

“All these things are subjective, we’re probably the worst judges of this and most artists would say this about their most recent work, but I feel like we’re in our prime and that we’re writing the best songs we’ve ever written. I don’t say that about every record, and I really feel strongly about this one. ‘Rushmere’ was super helpful for us getting back in a room with Dave Cobb [producer] really holding out feet to the fire about who we are as artists and what we want to do.

“We spent time with Pharrell Williams who really unlocked me as a writer; he really picked my lock and opened me up. Then it was just the perfect timing to walk into a room where Aaron Dessner just happened to be next door. We started showing each other demos we’d been working on, and that started while we were mixing ‘Rushmere’. Suddenly we were starting another record and the songs just poured out in a way that they haven’t since the first record. There was just this spirit of freedom, creativity, curiosity and trust amongst the three of us with Aaron [Dessner] as our producer.”

Mumford & Sons will also be performing at BST Hyde Park this summer, the first time they’ve headlined the London park festival since 2016. The War On Drugs will be joining them as special guests, with other acts including Holly Humberstone, Caamp, Divorce and Cliffords.
