The Coral continue to receive complaints from people who think they’re the bookies Coral

The Coral have shared messages revealing that they continue to be mistaken for the British bookies Coral.

The Merseyside indie band took to X today (March 29) to show a series of DMs they had recently received from a member of the public who was taking them to task for not paying out on a bet, under the assumption that the band were in fact the well-known gambling company.

The band signalled that this has become something of a regular occurrence for them, quipping: “Day #77432 of some angry fella messaging us about not paying out on his bet”.

In the attached messages, the individual demanded an explanation for why his bet on a football match involving the Guyana national team had not yet been paid out. “This is going everywhere you robbing bastards do you not make enough with out conning your customers,” the person wrote.

“This will be a time line video going to the gambling commission but all over SM through someone very high up in sport,” the threat continued.

Fans of the band asked them why they didn’t decide to pay the individual anyway, to which they replied: “Genuinely no idea of what he’s asking”.

In another reply, they joked: “I’d like to remind you we went double or quits on Liverpool winning the title so I’ll be requesting £40 this coming May.”

The band have a number of big shows lined up for the summer, including one in August, when they will be on the bill as part of Courteeners’ huge outdoor show at Manchester’s Wythenshawe Park, with The Vaccines, Getdown Services and Girl In The Year Above all also playing. They will also be playing at Electric Heart Festival in Surrey on July 12, as well as a homecoming show at We Are Wirral in Birkenhead Park on July 18 and 19. They will also open for Madness at Trentham Live in August, and at The Big Feastival later that month. Tickets are available here.

The Coral’s last LP was their 11th studio album ‘Sea Of Mirrors’ in 2023. That record included appearances from Cillian Murphy and John Simm, as well as from their former member Bill Ryder-Jones.

In September, however, the band did release an 8-bit retro video game version of their self-titled debut album, dubbed ‘The Coral Caves Of Illusion – Debut Album Celebration’.
