Trio of Romy, Oliver Sim and Jamie xx perform first full gig together since 2018 ahead of summer festival run

The xx opened their “next chapter” Friday in Mexico City as the band performed their first show together in eight years.

Taking the stage at Mexico City’s Pepsi Center, the trio of Romy, Oliver Sim and Jamie xx delivered a 19-song setlist that drew from each of their three albums together, as well as the solo work each member has released since they last performed together in 2018.

The xx opened the show with “Crystalised” off their 2009 debut xx and performed tracks like “Islands,” “Say Something Loving,” “I Dare You,” and “Intro.”

Mid-show, each member rotated playing tracks from their solo works: Jamie xx’s “Loud Places,” Sim’s “GMT,” and Romy’s “Enjoy Your Life.” The gig closed out with a three-song encore of “Night Time,” “Sunset,” and “Infinity.”

While the xx have informally reunited onstage over the past eight years — notably during Jamie xx’s Glastonbury set in 2024 — the Mexico City show marked the the band’s first full gig together since July 2018, and the first of three sold-out gigs the group has scheduled at the Pepsi Center before embarking on a summer tour of music festivals that includes stops at Coachella, Salt Lake City’s Kilby Block Party, and San Francisco’s Outside Lands.

“It’s been a while since our last show together as The xx. In 2026, we share our music with you all live again,” the xx wrote on social media when the Mexico shows were announced. “This is the start of a next chapter together, and there’s no better place to return than in front of our Mexican fans. We’ve always felt a deep connection to Mexico – the warmth, the openness, the energy from the crowd. Thank you for waiting for us and we can’t wait to see you soon!”
