Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson Netflix documentary reportedly scrapped after claims of physical altercation between the two

A documentary about Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson has reportedly been scrapped following an alleged physical altercation between the former bandmates.

Last October, reports emerged that Netflix would be producing a three-part doc series following the former One Direction singers as they went on a “spontaneous adventure” across the United States.

It was due to offer fans a “rare look” at their lives as they reconnected as friends and it was to be directed by Nicola Marsh, who has worked on the Netflix version of Song Exploder.

Netflix never officially announced the project, and now reports suggest that the documentary has been scrapped following an alleged physical altercation between Malik and Tomlinson.

A report in The Sun on Friday (April 17) claimed that six months ago, Malik punched Tomlinson after making a remark about Tomlinson’s mother Johannah, who passed away from leukaemia in 2016 at the age of 43.

The newspaper cited a source who said Malik “punched him straight in the face”, with his ring causing a cut to Tomlinson’s head. The source claimed that Tomlinson was left “stunned and in shock” and he was reportedly taken for medical treatment for a concussion.

Just hours after The Sun’s report was published, Marsh shared the newspaper’s headline on her Instagram Stories, along with the caption: “And there goes the last year of work”.

Neither Malik nor Tomlinson have commented publicly about the reports.

The documentary was set to follow on from Tomlinson making an appearance during Malik’s show in Los Angeles in January 2025, their first public reunion since Liam Payne’s funeral the previous November.

Malik released his fifth solo album ‘Konnakol’ yesterday (April 17), and he sets out on an accompanying tour on May 12 in Manchester. You can see all of the dates on the world tour here and find any remaining tickets here.

Tomlinson, meanwhile, released his third solo album ‘How Did I Get Here?’ in January, and spoke to NME about how the record represented a new breakthrough in his personal confidence.

“The experience that I built up on my past tours not only proved to me that I could do it on my own and provide a good night for people, but also it really informed the record in general,” he said. “I don’t think I would’ve been able to make a record like this without the confidence that I built there. There are now certain things that are seeping in that I disregarded in the past because I wasn’t confident enough.”
