Shed Seven to start recording new album next month

Shed Seven frontman Rick Witter has exclusively revealed to Absolute Radio that the band has already written a “new set of songs” for their eighth studio album. Following a career-defining 2024, the York legends are set to enter the recording studio this May to begin tracking the new material.

The announcement coincides with the launch of their massive Shedcember X UK tour, which will see the band perform 23 dates across the country this November and December. Tickets for the tour officially go on sale today, April 24, 2026, at 10:00 AM.

The news follows an incredible period for the band, who secured two Number 1 albums in a single year with A Matter of Time and the reimagined hits collection Liquid Gold. Reflecting on the feat, Witter told Absolute Radio’s Jay Lawrence that the success “still hasn’t really sunk in.”

While the band is enjoying their second wind as “rock and rollers,” Witter remains focused on the music over the accolades. “As long as the songs are there forever and people love them, the chart position doesn’t really matter,” he noted. He expressed deep gratitude for the fans who still sing every word to tracks written as far back as 1992.

Sharing a humorous piece of Britpop history, Witter looked back on the 30th anniversary of their blockbuster album A Maximum High. He revealed that the anthems “Getting Better” and “Going for Gold” were written in disused offices at a potato plant on the outskirts of York.

“Not so long back they knocked that down and built a B&Q on the site,” Witter laughed. “The exact point where they sell the sheds at B&Q is where we wrote A Maximum High. You couldn’t make it up!”

The upcoming tour promises a celebratory atmosphere, blending the band’s iconic 90s hits with new surprises. Witter concluded: “Expect the big hits and the thrill of us all singing our hearts out together. See you down the front.”
