The Rolling Stones seemingly confirm new album ‘Foreign Tongues’ with mysterious international billboard campaign

After a series of cryptic billboards popped up across the globe, it seems The Rolling Stones have revealed the title of their upcoming album.

A series of images showing billboards around the world – in locations including Australia, France, Poland and the UK – were shared to the rock veterans official Instagram account on Sunday (April 26).

The billboards feature the iconic Stones logo and the same phrase repeated in various languages, suggesting that the new record will be titled ‘Foreign Tongues’.

It comes shortly after they shared ‘Rough & Twisted’, a new vinyl-only single under The Cockroaches alias last week. In a similar fashion to the recent run of billboards, the band prompted rumours of their return after cryptic posters emerged across London.

Fans have already drawn a link between the two, given the lyrics for the latest single feature the line: “Why don’t you teach me/ Teach me all those foreign tongues?”

When they dropped hints under the name ‘The Cockroaches’ – a past pseudonym used by Mick Jagger and co. – the band also shared a QR code that directed fans to a new website, copyrighted to the Stones’ label, Universal Music.

A teaser video was later shared on an Instagram channel under the name ‘thecockroaches2026’, and was captioned: “64 & Counting”, a nod to the number of years since the group was founded.

‘Rough & Twisted’ single serves as the first taste of the new album, which is slated for release in July. It’ll be the band’s first full-length effort since 2023’s Grammy-winning ‘Hackney Diamonds’.

The Stones have once again joined forces with Andrew Watt on the record, and The Times has reported that the new project will not be the last from the rock icons, as they already have at least 10 songs written for another release after this upcoming record.

Watt revealed last year that he had been working with the Stones again to help them make another album. Later, guitarist Ronnie Wood confirmed reports that new music was in the works, saying the LP was finished and due to arrive in 2026.

Despite their return with new material, The Rolling Stones are unlikely to announce a full tour anytime soon. In late 2025, they confirmed that they scrapped plans for a UK and European stadium tour in 2026 because Keith Richards was unable to “commit” to it.

The group embarked on their North American ‘Hackney Diamonds’ tour in 2024, with the trek landing at Number Six on the list of the highest-grossing music world tours of that year. The Rolling Stones last played the UK in 2022, when two huge London BST Hyde Park gigs followed a stadium concert in Liverpool.
