This prestigious award recognizes an international songwriter whose work has exerted a profound cultural and commercial impact within the UK over the past year. ROSALÍA’s selection follows the massive success of her 2025 album, LUX, a groundbreaking project that saw the Spanish artist writing in thirteen different languages. Featuring hits such as “La Perla” and “Berghain,” LUX further solidified her reputation as a boundary-pushing creator who effortlessly transcends linguistic and genre barriers.
A classically trained flamenco musician, ROSALÍA has consistently reimagined traditional forms for a modern, global audience. From her 2018 breakthrough El Mal Querer to the self-produced global #1 MOTOMAMI in 2022, her songwriting is celebrated for its fluid blend of experimentation and authenticity. Her latest work, LUX, achieved an unprecedented five Billboard #1 chart placements and earned “Album of the Year” accolades from critics at Rolling Stone, The New York Times, and Pitchfork.
“We are proud to celebrate ROSALÍA,” said Roberto Neri, CEO of The Ivors Academy. “With lyrics in over 13 languages, she has broken down barriers and borders. This recognition reflects our growing global outlook and celebrates songwriters defining music and culture.”
The Ivor Novello Awards are widely considered the pinnacle of creative musical achievement. By accepting this honor, ROSALÍA joins an elite pantheon of songwriting legends, including Paul McCartney, David Bowie, Adele, Bruce Springsteen, and Amy Winehouse.
Tom Gray, Chair of The Ivors Academy, noted: “ROSALÍA is redefining what songwriting can be. Her work blends tradition and experimentation with extraordinary precision.”
While the winners for other categories will be revealed during the ceremony on 21 May, this special distinction for ROSALÍA highlights her unique position as a songwriter who has successfully turned experimental, multilingual art into a global pop phenomenon.
