Ex-Spandau Ballet singer Ross Davidson sentenced to 14 years for rape and sexual assault

Former Spandau Ballet singer Ross Davidson has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for rape and sexual assault.

Davidson performed with the band in 2018 and had also been a part of the Queen-inspired West End Musical, We Will Rock You. He was first convicted of rape, sexual assaults and voyeurism involving four women after a trial in summer 2024.

He pleaded guilty to a charge of voyeurism – relating to how footage was found on his phone, dating back to December 2019, which showed him touching a woman sexually without consent as she slept – but pleaded not guilty to all charges of rape, attempted rape and sexual assault.

He then appeared in court again earlier this year, charged with the rape of a woman in London in March 2015 and the attempted rape and sexual assault of another woman in Thailand in December 2019.

He pleaded not guilty, arguing that the instances were consensual and claiming that he was just “sex positive” and “open to trying different sexual appetites”.

Prosecutor Richard Hearnden alleged to jurors that Davidson had a “much darker side” and felt entitled to “sex on demand”, and one victim spoke of a time when Davidson allegedly attacked her when she slept, leading to her waking up feeling “helpless” and “scared to react” (via Metro).

⚖️Ross Davidson has been sentenced to fourteen years’ imprisonment after he was previously found guilty of a total of eight sexual offences against six women.

Another woman recalled being attacked in Thailand, saying that he tried to rape her as she slept, and she had to “calmly talk him down” from it. She also said she was unaware of a video of her being assaulted by Davidson as she slept, until police brought it to her attention in 2023.

After over 11 hours of deliberation, jurors at Wood Green Crown Court found him guilty on all charges.

Today (Thursday April 30), he appeared in Wood Green Crown Court again and was sentenced to 14 years in prison.

“I am incredibly grateful for the continued support from victims throughout the investigation and court process, which has undoubtedly aided today’s outcome,” said Detective Constable Kamila Kedadrova, who was part of the investigation team (via Met Police).

The Detective Constable also described Davidson as a “prolific offender who carried out cowardly and opportunistic assaults against his victims” (via Metro).

The judge also said that Davidson was guilty of “behaving to women in a wholly disgraceful manner” (as per Sky News).

Julie Currie, the Victim Navigator Programme Manager at Justice & Care – a charity that provides support for victims of exploitation seeking justice – also shared a statement following today’s ruling. “Survivors of sexual violence face immense barriers to seeking justice, from fear and intimidation to prolonged court delays,” the comment read.

“This conviction is a testament to the bravery of the survivors and to the importance of specialist, trauma‑informed support that prioritises safety, choice and dignity at every stage of the justice process.”
