Nick Cannon has admitted he has double standards when it comes to his 15-year-old son and daughter dating.
The rapper is father to twins, son Moroccan, and daughter Monroe, whom he shares with Mariah Carey.
Now he’s told how he isn’t treating them in the same way when it comes to their dating lives.
“My son has been dating, and I’ve allowed it,” the 45-year-old told the TMZ Podcast. “I’ve encouraged it.”
When asked if he’d been allowing Monroe to have the same freedoms, he revealed he’s stricter with her.
“No, absolutely not. It’s absolutely a double standard,” he said. “You have to because first of all – and I know I get in trouble a lot because I say things with my chest – but, there is a difference when parenting a son and when parenting a daughter.”
Cannon, who has 12 children, added, “I am more protective of my daughter because there are things out there that I have to protect my daughter from. Like, as we know, there’s certain types of individuals that you want to keep your daughter away from. My son, it’s a different conversation when he’s going out into the dating world.”
He brought up the issue of domestic violence as a reason for being more protective of his daughter.
“If somebody puts their hands on my daughter, I’m going to jail,” he said, explaining the scenario would be his “worst nightmare” because “I’m going to jail for forever.”
He added his main worry about his son was the fact that he might meet “gold diggers”. He said, “he’s got a lot of money. His mama’s Mariah Carey.”
