More than 50,000 fans packed into Mexico City’s Zócalo Square as BTS made a balcony appearance at the Presidential Palace following a meeting with President Claudia Sheinbaum.

Fans had been gathering since early Wednesday (06.05.26) morning, singing along to the group’s biggest hits and shouting the members’ names long before the band stepped outside.

When BTS finally emerged, the square erupted, turning the historic centre into one of the largest fan scenes the city has hosted in recent memory.

Before greeting the public, the group spent roughly 40 minutes in discussion with President Sheinbaum after accepting an official invitation from her office.

She had confirmed the visit during her daily “Mañanera” briefing, where she praised the band’s music, saying it “delivers messages of friendship, peace, and love.”

RM addressed the crowd in Spanish, telling fans: “Thank you very much for inviting us. We are looking forward to the start of our concerts. We are deeply grateful. Thank you very much.”

President Sheinbaum later revealed she had already encouraged the group to return, saying: “I have already asked BTS to come again next year.”

The turnout underscored the group’s enormous influence in the country, where they remain one of the most streamed acts. The Mexico City Chamber of Commerce expects their concerts to generate $115.3 million for the local economy.

El Universal reports that Mexico City leads the world in BTS streams on Spotify, contributing more than 606 million plays.

Ticket demand for their May 7, 9 and 10 ARIRANG WORLD TOUR dates has been unprecedented. Over one million fans attempted to secure around 150,000 seats, with all three nights at Estadio GNP Seguros selling out in 37 minutes — one of the fastest sell-outs Mexico has seen in recent years.

BTS’ Mexico City stop is shaping up to be a standout moment of their global tour.
