Perfume Genius announces more ‘Duo Tour’ dates in UK and North America

Perfume Genius has announced an extension to his ‘Duo Tour’, with new dates in North America and the UK.

The musician – real name Mike Hadreas – played a string of shows earlier this year alongside his longtime collaborator and co-writer Alan Wyffels, and has now confirmed details of further dates to come.

They will play six shows across North America in September and October, stopping off in Vancouver, Seattle, Portland, Petaluma, Big Sur and Los Angeles, and they will be followed by a one-off show in London’s Union Chapel on October 28.

Tickets for the shows are on sale now and you can find yours here (UK) and here (North America).

Hadreas has said of the shows, “Alan was the first person I ever sang in front of. We’ve played every single show together for 15 years. When we started it was just him and I, perched on our keyboards at the front of the stage. I miss a lot of those older songs and how intense they could be with just the two of us. We’re excited to go back there. We want to sing stripped down versions of newer songs as well and write some new music altogether to play as a duo.”

Perfume Genius will play:

SEPTEMBER
27 – Vancouver, Hollywood Theatre
28 – Seattle, Town Hall Seattle
29 – Portland, Aladdin Theater

OCTOBER
1 – Petaluma, CA, Mystic Theatre
2 – Big Sur, CA, Henry Miller Memorial Library
3 – Los Angeles, Barnsdall Art Theatre
28 – London, Union Chapel

Perfume Genius released his last album ‘Glory’ last year, and spoke to NME at the time about the inspiration behind it. “I think one of the things that makes me shy in my daily life is that I’m not gonna be taken seriously because I’m little or have a different way of communicating,” he said looking at the lyrics to ‘It’s A Mirror’.

“I was thinking how there’s no way that I’m gonna talk to a neighbour; it would just be too anxiety-producing. And yet I play shows and sing in front of people and I’m not terrified of that anymore,” he added. “I’ve felt a sense of purpose about the job that’s made me work on that. I’ve been really serious about [my music] and been rewarded by the fact that people are taking it seriously.”

In February, Hadreas joined Zara Larsson in pleading with fans to help them change their Wikipedia photos to something more flattering. He was not happy that it had not been updated since 2017, joking that it had been “haunting him for years”.

He also worked on a cover of Bonnie “Prince” Billy’s ‘I See A Darkness’ alongside Anna Calvi at the end of last year.
