Mick Jagger and Ronnie Wood join Vernon Kay for a special Rolling Stones edition of Tracks Of My Years

Rock legends Mick Jagger and Ronnie Wood are set to take BBC Radio 2 listeners on a spectacular journey through their unparalleled lives and careers. During his popular mid-morning broadcast today, host Vernon Kay officially announced that the iconic Rolling Stones frontman and guitarist have recorded a special edition of the station’s beloved segment, Tracks of My Years, choosing ten defining songs that shaped their musical identities.

The full, feature-length special will broadcast on Radio 2 on Sunday 31 May 2026 at 5 AM, becoming available on BBC Sounds and BBC iPlayer at 6 AM the same day. Additionally, daily bite-sized episodes will be featured during Vernon’s regular mid-morning weekday show from Monday 1 June through Friday 5 June.

The exclusive sit-down comes as the legendary rock group prepares for the highly anticipated summer release of their brand-new studio album, Foreign Tongues. Vernon Kay joins Jagger and Wood for a revealing, nostalgic, and often hilarious trip down memory lane. During the interview, Mick chats candidly about the ramshackle nature of the band’s earliest recording sessions, the exact moment he realized he was destined for center-stage frontman duties, and what it was like meeting his musical hero, Muddy Waters, in Chicago. He also reflects on collaborating with Sir Paul McCartney on the new album, and the profound importance of ensuring the late, great Charlie Watts posthumously featured on the upcoming record.

Meanwhile, Ronnie looks back fondly on being inspired by his older brothers to teach himself legendary Chuck Berry riffs in his bedroom. He shares vivid memories of joining the band in the mid-1970s, transforming his personal home into a temporary recording studio, and a moving tribute to the late Brian Wilson that inspired a recent guitar part. Hosted by Vernon Kay, whose weekday morning program stands as the UK’s most popular radio show with a weekly audience of 6.6 million listeners, this BBC Audio production promises to be an unmissable event for music fans across the country.
