Doja Cat fears losing herself without new music

Doja Cat fears losing herself without new music

Doja Cat has opened up about the heavy toll of her relentless schedule, admitting she fears she could “lose herself” if she does not return to her creative roots. Speaking on Capital XTRA Breakfast with Robert Bruce and Shayna Marie, the global superstar confirmed her upcoming plans to step away from the spotlight, mapping out a lengthy three-year hiatus once her current tour concludes.

When questioned about her three-year disappearance from her fans and the industry, the singer explained the necessity behind the drastic move. “I think I need time to do nothing in order to do anything,” Doja Cat revealed, laying bare the creative burnout that has been quietly building behind the scenes.

The star confessed that her current lifestyle has completely blocked her musical output, leaving her feeling disconnected from her primary passion. “I really truly believe that I could lose myself if I don’t, like, get back to making music,” she shared. “And I cannot make music right now. Like, I literally cannot. I can’t do the thing that I’m here because of, you know?”

While she has become a dominant fixture at global style events, she admitted the balance has tipped too far away from songwriting. “I’m so busy doing, like, fashion,” she said. “Like, not that I don’t like that stuff, I love fashion, but I don’t make music anymore. And I really think that that’s like paramount to the whole thing.”

To combat this, the singer is already preparing a private sanctuary for her recovery period, ensuring that “doing nothing” still leaves room for low-pressure creativity. “I’ve been nesting at home, building a studio, like, making it cute in there,” she told the hosts. “Yeah, I’m going to be home doing nothing.”

When asked if this hiatus would eventually yield more classic tracks, Doja Cat remained refreshingly indifferent about the commercial outcome, focusing instead on the therapeutic necessity of creating. “I don’t know, maybe,” she replied. “Maybe all of it’s going to suck. Who cares? The point is that I, you know, I got to make something. I have to.”
