Babymetal reveal Resident Evil 30th anniversary merch collab

Babymetal are celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Resident Evil series with a limited-edition merch collection.

The first Resident Evil game was released in 1996 and is credited with reviving the zombie genre as well as defining survival horror video games. That original game went on to rack up more than 5million sales worldwide and spawned a number of sequels including this year’s Resident Evil Requiem.

To celebrate 30 years of Resident Evil, game creators Capcom have teamed up with crossover metal stars Babymetal for a merch collaboration. Featuring artwork from Resident Evil artist Hinanana, fans can get their hands on two different t-shirts, a hoody and a range of keyrings.

After teasing the collab last year with a video featuring  Resident Evil Village’s baddie Alcina Dimitrescu aka Lady Di, pre-orders finally went live yesterday (May 25) via the official Babymetal store and will close on June 26. The band have also shared a video of them seeing the “cute” range for the first time. “We are very excited about this special collaboration,” said the band’s Moametal.

A Resident Evil anniversary concert tour is scheduled to take place later this year. ‘Symphony Of Legacy’ will feature music from across” the Resident Evil series from the 1996 original to the recently-released Requiem. “It’s time to relive the terrifying experience at concert halls,” explains the official tour website. The tour will hit Europe in August while North American dates will be announced soon.

“This concert tour revives the myth of Resident Evil in a powerful new form: live, immersive, and utterly captivating,” explains a press release. “Carefully selected visual elements accompany the performance, immersing the audience in the dark aesthetic of Resident Evil without detracting from the musical focus. The result is an immersive live experience that combines horror, nostalgia, and symphonic power, bridging gaming culture, cinematic art, and classical concert tradition.”

Modern horror icon Zach Cregger (Barbarian, Weapons) is set to launch his Resident Evil movie later this year. The film will tell a “completely original story” but will also be “faithful” to the tone of the Resident Evil games.

In other news, Grand Theft Auto 6 was supposed to launch today (May 26) before it was delayed to November.
