Alex G and Mac DeMarco’s sets at Primavera Sound cancelled due to “adverse weather conditions”

Primavera Sound has been hit by “adverse weather conditions”, with Alex G and Mac DeMarco’s sets cancelled and stages being temporarily suspended.

Today (June 4) is the opening day of the festival at the Parc del Fòrum in Barcelona, with tonight’s headliners set to be Doja Cat, Massive Attack and Bad Gyal. It runs for the next two days, with The Cure, The xx, Gorillaz, My Bloody Valentine, Addison Rae and Skrillex also topping the bill.

However, earlier this evening, the big screens on the main stages showed a warning message, explaining that “due to adverse weather conditions, performances on this stage have been temporarily suspended.”

“Please remain calm and follow the instructions of the festival’s security and staff teams,” it continued. “Stay tuned to the festival screens and official channels for further updates. Thank you for your cooperation.”

THE WEATHER IN BARCELONA IS NOT LOOKING GREAT AT THE MOMENT BUT IF SOMETHING GOES WRONG I WILL SEARCH FOR A PLAN B. LETS BOW OUR HEADS AND PRAY TOGETHER BECAUSE I NEED TO SEE MY ANGELS TONIGHT. THIS RAIN WONT STOP OUR FUN

Amid heavy rain, areas of the festival site were closed, including the Estrella Damm and Revolut stages, while at 9:30pm local time, the festival officially announced that Alex G’s set on the Revolut Stage had been cancelled, as had DeMarco’s on the Occident Stage.

According to BBC Weather, there is a 90 per cent chance of heavy rain showers continuing until 2am local time.

“We are closely monitoring the situation and will keep you informed as soon as we have further updates,” they wrote.

Massive Attack are due to play on the Estrella Damm stage at 9:55pm, with Doja Cat scheduled for 11:30pm on the Revolut Stage. Bad Gyal’s set on Estrella Damm is listed as starting at 1:20am. Father John Misty, Florence Road, Melt-Banana and Panda Bear are also set to play later today.

For the fifth consecutive year, Amazon Music is producing and broadcasting the exclusive livestream of the festival, with The Cure, Doja Cat, Gorillaz, Little Simz and Geese among those whose sets are scheduled to be broadcast in full.

The festival officially opened yesterday (June 3), with performances from Wet Leg, Guitarricadelafuente and Yard Act.

Last year’s edition of Primavera Sound Barcelona was headlined by Charli XCX, Chappell Roan and Sabrina Carpenter. The event also hosted slots from LCD Soundsystem, FKA Twigs, Haim, Jamie xx, Fontaines D.C., Beach House, IDLES, Turnstile and more.
