Olivia Rodrigo debuted her first-ever duet at Primavera Sound in Barcelona, and it features The Cure‘s Robert Smith.

The moment came during her surprise set at the festival last night (June 6), which was announced only a few hours before she took to the stage.

Introducing the song, ‘What’s Wrong With Me’, to the crowd, Rodrigo said: “It’s really special to me for so many reasons, primarily because it’s the first song I’ve ever had a feature on.”

When Smith then appeared as the surprise guest, the audience’s reaction was immediate. “I can’t believe this song exists with the person that it exists with. I’m just so fucking over the moon,” Rodrigo said.

The track is an upbeat, breezy pop song, juxtaposed by its heartbreaking lyrics that see her trace the moment she realises her relationship is not working. “Went to the doctor and she said I was fine/But every movie that I’ve seen makes me cry/It’s like somebody put a weight on my chest,” she sings. “I should talk to a friend, but I can’t get out of bed/My head is spinning and my stomach is sick/Say I’m in love, so it’s hard to admit/I can’t eat, I can’t sleep/I think you’re what’s wrong with me.”

By the end of the performance, after hugging Smith, she told the crowd, “I feel like I’m gonna cry. I can’t believe that’s a thing that happened in the real world and not just a figment of my imagination.”

After the set, Rodrigo took to Instagram to share that the track will be released on June 12, along with the rest of the album.

“I am still in disbelief that Robert who is in my eyes one of the most brilliant, legendary, wonderful people to ever exist is on this record with me,” she wrote. “I had the most memorable evening singing it with him at primavera tonight and I cannot wait for this song and record to be yours. 5 days holy shit!!!!”

Rodrigo last welcomed Smith onto the stage with her during her Glastonbury 2025 headline set, where they played ‘Just Like Heaven’, as well as ‘Friday I’m In Love’, and since then, Smith has spoken about enjoying “a couple of memorable nights in the studio” with Rodrigo.

Smith opened up about his relationship with Rodrigo back in March, revealing that he became a fan after hearing her breakout single ‘Drivers License’, and went on to buy both ‘Sour’ and ‘Guts’.

“Although most of the songs on those two albums are not really ‘aimed at my demographic’, they are all so good that it is hard not to fall in love with them,” Smith said.

Rodrigo has since said she has been “diving deeper into The Cure’s discography”, and her Glastonbury duets with Smith were released as part of her ‘Live From Glastonbury 2025’ album.

Meanwhile, Smith performed his own set at Primavera with The Cure, where they kicked off their European tour with a setlist full of rarities.

Rodrigo is releasing her third album ‘You Seem Pretty Sad For A Girl So In Love’ next Friday (June 12), a record she has described as “experimental” and full of “sad love songs”. It will include the recent singles ‘Drop Dead’ and ‘The Cure’, and will centre around the feelings of “jealousy” and “longing” that arose from her first “big girl relationship”.

Rodrigo has already cited The Cure, New Order, Joy Division, The White Stripes and Bikini Kill as sources of inspiration for the record, and also sparked rumours that Geese frontman Cameron Winter appears on the album after being seen at a restaurant with him.

Since confirming album three, the ‘Deja Vu’ singer has announced a massive ‘Unraveled Tour’, which includes support from  Wolf Alice, The Last Dinner Party, Devon Again, Die Spitz, and Grace Ives.

Already, more dates have been added to the list due to high demand, including multiple nights at London’s O2. Visit here for UK tickets, here for international tickets, and find a list of shows here.

The tour is the first since the critically acclaimed ‘Guts World Tour’ which took place last year and was her biggest to date – with 95 sold-out shows and over 1.4 million fans in attendance.
