Shania Twain became ‘malnourished’ after using ‘very unhealthy’ tactics to lose weight

Shania Twain has revealed that she once became “malnourished” because she resorted to “very unhealthy” tactics to lose weight.

The That Don’t Impress Me Much hitmaker has candidly opened up about her relationship with her body image, and divulged that she once did “very unhealthy things” to be thinner.

The 60-year-old singer told The Times that she went through a stage during her 2019 Las Vegas residency where she couldn’t stand to look at her own reflection.

“I stopped looking at myself in the mirror. I hated my body,” she candidly shared. “I’m, like, ‘Oh, I cannot stand this changing body.’ But that was so unhealthy. Who cannot look at themselves in the mirror?”

Shania explained that her body was changing due to her age, and the techniques she used to maintain her figure were no longer effective.

“So all of a sudden I’m bloating, and I’m definitely not in control. I can’t just lose five pounds,” she recalled. “I was doing very unhealthy things. And I was working my body more than I was feeding it to keep up with the strain.”

The Man! I Feel Like A Woman! singer admitted that her desire “to be thinner” ultimately led her to be “malnourished”, and she sustained a thigh injury on stage during her residency at the time.

Shania noted that the menopause has been “very good” for her self-image, and she now feels more positive about her looks.

“Now I’m like, bring on the mirrors, I’m going to look at myself all day long!” she said with a laugh. “Menopause has been very good for me because I’ve learned that some things you cannot control.”

The You’re Still The One hitmaker is currently opening for Harry Styles during his residency at London’s Wembley Stadium. The last show takes place on 4 July.
