Katy Perry has admitted she is glad she “decided to stick around” after enduring what she described as the “worst year” of her life.
The Last Friday Night singer has opened up about her mental health struggles following her split from actor Orlando Bloom last year.
Speaking on the latest episode of The Zane Lowe Show on Apple Music, Katy described the period as both the “worst year and best year” of her life.
“Last year was so hard. It was the worst year and the best year,” she said. “Because there’s two sides to every coin, and I decided to look at it as the best.”
“And like I went to space,” she continued, referring to her April 2025 journey aboard Blue Origin’s New Shepard rocket as part of a historic all-female suborbital mission. “I created space for my own life. And then all of a sudden this huge blessing in my life showed up.”
Katy went on to note that everything soon became more “settled”.
“And everything is really changed and real, grounded and settled, and I’m just so glad I decided to stick around for another year because you know if you just keep on living, life can get better,” she told Zane.
When referring to the “blessing”, Katy appeared to be alluding to her relationship with former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. The couple made their public debut in October.
The singer also reflected on the weeks following her separation from Bloom.
“It’s wild to look at where I was one year ago exactly. I remember where I was one year ago exactly this year,” she shared. “Last year, June I was in the winter on the Lifetimes tour. I was crying. I was in Adelaide. I had just separated. I had been through a lot of you know, just stuff publicly, privately.”
“And I was just like, ‘holy s**t, this is really intense. Is a person really supposed to feel all this and, or absorb all this?'” she continued. “And then my blessing came and it was wonderful. It was like God didn’t take me this far to desert me.”
Katy and Orlando were together from 2016 until 2025 and welcomed their daughter, Daisy, in August 2020.
