The Glasgow outfit are set to release the follow-up to 2024’s ‘Meltdown’ on October 2 via Dance To The Radio – you can pre-order/pre-save it here. Speaking about the emotionally-charged pop-rock single, frontman Sam McTrusty said it was about “being at the other end of a relationship where you feel like no matter what you do, nothing is ever good enough.

“You take a step back and realise that in trying to appease that one person, you’ve blinded yourself to the fact that everything is great. Look outside of that window, and life is much better.”

The emotive quality of the song can be felt across the entire album, with McTrusty noting that while trauma had shaped all of his songs in one way or another, this album will see him open up about it for the first time.

“As you grow up, you start to view life through a different lens – especially the whole struggle of going from boy to man. My experience of that is particularly painful, emotional and confusing. But because it seemed normal at the time, it didn’t really hit me until I found my tribe, my people, my band.”

He continued: “My entire adult life is meant to have been looking ahead but my personal life is always looking back. That baggage is basically what the whole band is about.”

Written after he packed up his entire life and studio to start a new chapter in Toronto alongside his wife and two children, bassist Ross McNae helped steer the record’s transatlantic creation as co-producer.

Founding member Barry McKenna also remained integral to the album’s sound, adding key finishing touches in Toronto, which marked the first time in many years that all four founding members have recorded together on a Twin Atlantic record.

”This is what we’ve always been but with the veil lifted”, McTrusty said of the upcoming album. “I hope people hear the record and it inspires them to do that and be more honest with themselves.”

The ‘Separation From The Animals’ tracklist is:

‘Your, The End’
‘In Your Eyes’
‘I’m Not Coming Home’
‘Don’t Quit It’
‘Strong’
‘The Risk Of Love Is Always Loss’
‘Unless It Hurts’
‘Confidant’
‘Save Your Breath’
‘Supersweetness’
‘Lost’
‘Feel It All’

The band will also return to the road with a six-date headline run in October, as well as a series of summer of outdoor support shows with McFly.

Tickets go on general sale this Friday (June 26) at 10.00am. You can find your tickets here, and check out a full list of dates below.

Back in 2023, Twin Atlantic spoke to NME about their single ‘Stuck In A Car With You’ and their “unhinged guitar record”.

“With this record, we wanted to make something for the fans, and the kids who first started this band,” McTrusty explained. “‘Stuck In A Car With You’ is a no-nonsense, fast-paced rock song that shines a spotlight on the emotion behind it.”

He continued: “Since we released [2011’s] ‘Free’ and [2009’s] ‘Vivarium’, fans have basically been asking us to make those albums again. We’ve never been that excited by revisiting the past, but enough time has passed that it felt interesting to do.”
