A representative for the late Oliver Tree will honour his “final wish” by setting up a foundation/endowment fund in his name.
Earlier this month, the singer-songwriter died along with five others, including Argentine YouTuber Gaspi and director Lucas A. Vignale, in an aerial collision in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Oliver was 32.
In a message posted to his Instagram account on Sunday, a spokesperson confirmed the Ugly Is Beautiful artist’s body was “back in California where he can finally rest”.
They also announced that they are creating a fund titled Dr. Oliver Tree’s Extremely Epic Grant For Baby Geniuses in memory of Oliver, who was born Oliver Tree Nickell.
“This is something that Oliver had put together before his passing, written in his will. We will make sure his wish comes to fruition so that more joy, love and art can be spread into the world, that was his final wish,” they wrote.
In addition, the representative thanked all of Oliver’s fans for their ongoing support.
“Thank you to everyone who has reached out, shown love, support and has done incredible tributes for Oliver. The constant love, support and positivity is helping the family, friends and collaborators make it through these extremely difficult times,” they added. “Love you all so much, Oliver would be so proud of every one of his supporters, friends and family. Peace be with Oliver.”
In April, Oliver spoke about his desire to give his “wealth or the things that get made from it” away one day.
“When I die – I’ve set it up – my will is set up that when I pass, my family, no one’s going to get a penny,” he said on The Zach Sang Show. “If I have a wife or kids or anything, (they’re) not getting a f**king penny. I’ll get my kids through college – that’s the agreement. But there’s not going to be a silver spoon… The idea is, when I die, all the money is going to go back to artists.”
Local aviation authorities are still investigating the helicopter crash.
