India.Arie isn’t the biggest fan of what many believe to be the song of the summer: Yung Miami‘s hit single “Spend Dat.”
The singer responded to a user on Threads who was calling for people to boycott the song. “I’m calling a boycott of Yung Miami’s song ‘Spend Dat,’” reads the post. “I believe it’s degrading to our culture. At some point, we have to take seriously the power music has over our perception and the values it reinforces. This can’t be the song of the summer.”
India agreed with the original poster’s sentiment, replying that she’s wasted time trying to get people to care about how much music can truly influence a person. “I spent my entire adult life caring way too much,” she said. “Because I finally learned that not everybody Cares (with a captial C). And explaining it to them is not gonna make them care. Everything you listen to, see or hear is going to influence you. So make wise choices.”
“Spend Dat” debuted at No. 66 on the Billboard Hot 100 on June 6 and has been climbing the chart since. Just last week, the song found its way into the top 40 at No. 35 and now sees itself up 10 spots at No. 25 this week.
Over the weekend, during the 2026 BET Awards, the Miami rapper said that she wants Drake on a remix. “Champagne Papi,” she told Complex. “You know we gotta call Drake. Iceman. I want Iceman! Iceman, pick up the phone.”
