Greg James worried Taylor Swift wedding invite was ‘scam’

Greg James worried Taylor Swift wedding invite was ‘scam’

Radio DJ Greg James has revealed he was worried that he’d been scammed with a “fake” invite to Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding.

The BBC Radio 1 DJ, whom the singer informally invited to the wedding live on air in October, returned to his breakfast show on Wednesday morning and divulged details about attending the ceremony at New York City’s Madison Square Garden on Friday.

Greg told listeners he received the official invite “in the form of a link” while scrolling through his phone as he went to the bathroom in the middle of the night on 12 March.

However, because all of the communications were “electronic”, Greg worried he might have been sent a “fake” as a prank, and he wasn’t sure if the invite was real until the wedding day itself.

“Honestly, until we were in there, there was a huge part… (wife) Bella (Mackie) and I were like, ‘This could be a scam,'” he said. “Until we were in, we were like, ‘We might have made a big trip for nothing here.'”

Greg also admitted that he felt like he was in Madame Tussauds wax museum because there were A-list celebrities everywhere he looked.

“It was a room full of the most famous people in the world,” he remarked. “I just couldn’t believe it. It was like going to Madame Tussauds but the wax was animated and you could interact with wax and it talked back to you; it was absolutely mad,” he remarked.

The radio personality noted that the British guests gravitated towards each other, and he and Bella spent time with Hugh Grant and his wife Anna Eberstein.

While he didn’t want to reveal too much about the service itself, Greg shared that the food was “unlimited”, there were “multiple cakes”, and the “first 10,000 drinks were free”.

“There was an open invitation to get up onto the stage and dance while the DJ was on, and so I did,” he added, noting that he only got to speak to the “very busy” bride and groom briefly.

Taylor and Travis invited a reported 1,000 guests to their big day, including Brad Pitt, Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks, Paul McCartney, Gigi Hadid, Bradley Cooper, the Haim sisters and Sabrina Carpenter.

Greg confirmed his attendance on his Instagram Stories over the weekend, admitting he had “the world’s greatest hangover”.

“True to her word, of course the invitation arrived and I couldn’t tell anyone. And oh my God, what an unbelievably brilliant night. I’m off for a nap,” he wrote.
